About Community Engagements – Fall 2026

The IM is making plans for community engagement, which may be conducted remotely in the Fall.  We intend to provide opportunities to meet with members of the community and connect with the IM Team.

If you know of individuals or small groups who would be interested in sharing their experiences with the IM or have questions for the IM Team, please contact us.

We remain available to conduct presentations to civic organizations and other interested groups.

About the Community Conversation with the IM – August 2026

On August 4, 2026, the Independent Monitor engaged in a community conversation, hosted by Dogwood Health Trust, to discuss its Annual Report for Year 2025, which was released to the public on July 24th.

The conversation was conducted in an online, webinar format, and designed to provide a review of the monitoring process and an overview of the Report.  Attendees had the opportunity to submit questions in advance for Dogwood Health Trust and the Independent Monitor.

About Community Engagements – Winter and Spring 2026

The Independent Monitor Team continued to conduct outreach efforts to connect with individuals and small groups for conversations.  Some conversations were held by phone, while others were held virtually by Teams or Zoom platforms.

During the onsite visit (March 9 – 10) to Western North Carolina,  the IM Team met with individuals, elected officials, and small groups in-person.  In addition, the IM planned two community meetings, one held in Brevard and the second held in Asheville, to provide updates about the IM’s monitoring cycle and status for Year 2025.  In addition, the IM welcomed a guest speaker who provided valuable insights into the NC regulatory process for licensed healthcare facilities.  Afterwards, Resource Tables were made available for one-on-one conversations to ask questions of and provide concerns to representatives of the following organizations:  NC Department of Health and Human Services, NC Department of Justice, HCA Mission Health System, and the Independent Monitor.

About the Community Engagements – Fall 2025

The Independent Monitor continued to conduct outreach efforts to small groups, civic organizations, and individuals for conversations via live, virtual format during the Fall 2025.

Thank you to those individuals and groups who made time to meet with the IM Team during October and November 2025. We appreciated your efforts and found our time together to be insightful and productive. Each conversation was appreciated.

Reflections of Community Meetings – March 2026

Reflections of Community Conversation via Webinar – August 2025

On August 7, 2025, Dogwood Health Trust hosted a community conversation for the Independent Monitor to discuss its Annual Report for 2024, which was released to the public on July 29th.  The conversation was conducted in an online, webinar format, and those in attendance had the opportunity to submit questions for Dogwood Health Trust and the Independent Monitor.

Reflections of Community Meetings – May 2025

In addition to meetings with citizens and groups, both in person and remotely, and touring HCA/Mission Hospital System facilities in collaboration with Dogwood Health Trust, the Independent Monitor hosted two community meetings (Marion – May 12 and Asheville – May 13).

The revised format included a presentation by the IM followed by an opportunity to meet with the IM Team and representatives of critical state regulatory agencies and HCA/Mission Health System staff at resource tables for one-on-one conversations.

Both Community Meetings followed the same agenda and format.  We hope that the resource tables allowed you to meet and visit with representatives of the organizations who have authority to take action on behalf of the citizens of Western North Carolina.

Reflections of Community Meetings – January 2025

The Independent Monitor Team visited Western North Carolina during the week of January 27 – 31, 2025 and was able to meet in person and virtually with 11 individuals and groups and one civic organization.

Our appreciation to all individuals who welcomed our Team members, provided space for our meetings, and participated in meaningful discussions.
